The Hearts of Texas follows the women in the Goliad Pet Adoption agency who save and rescue all the abandoned abused animals in their small rural Texas town, Goliad (2 hrs South of Austin), despite not having any proper facility, funding, or support from the civic leaders. It's a great, inspiring - us against the - under-dog story. Recently the city council ruled against providing an exemption to the city ordinance of limiting the number of animals to six per household, and instead chooses to ENFORCE IT! So now many of the dogs rescued and who are fostered withing city limits need to find new homes by December 1st. Because Goliad is a small town, with only 2000 people within city limits, the adoption agency needs more homes to choose from. As a production company with advertising and marketing backgrounds, we saw an opportunity to create unique, newsworthy media event. We are calling it, Adopt an Underdog. We're trying to get people from all across the country to come down to this small town to give these under dogs a new home. We will invite the print and broadcast media to witness this emotional event. We're working on trying to get an airline or hotel sponsorship. to fly people from all over the country to Austin, TX, have them stay and enjoy this great city for a couple of days, then caravan everyone down to Goliad to adopt their new family member. We hope to make this a unique experience, something newsworthy to draw attention to all the hard work that goes into saving, rescuing, and rehabilating all these wonderful dogs! |

QUASI MOTO: Quasi Moto is one great dog! He was picked up along with a mate, from a lady that decided she just didn't want them anymore. Too much trouble, she said. Quasi has been our foster program a little over a year now. His friend Quilla has already been adopted, but Quasi is still waiting. He is Mister Water Dog Deluxe, we think he is a Water Spaniel mix of some sort. He just loves the water. We think he is about 4 years old, and weighs about 45 lbs. He is housetrained and crate trained, gets along great with other dogs, and loves people of all sizes and ages. He might need to be taught a few manners, such as not jumping up on people, but overall he is one of the sweetest, most loving dogs. He has been neutered, and is up to date on all vaccinations and wormings. He is heartworm negative and is currently on monthly preventative. Quasi Moto is also microchipped. All he needs now is a wonderful, loving forever family.

DESTIN: Destin was found, along with her 4 littermates when she was about 3 months old. Someone dumped the whole litter at the state park headquarters which is next door to the city pound. Three of her littermates were adopted quickly through another humane society, but unfortunately she and her brother Dale came down with Parvo while in the pound, and by the time we pulled them through that awful sickness, they were too large to be accepted. She has been through a lot in her life, but is still so sweet and loving. She loves to run and play with all the other dogs, although she may be a little bossy! She is approx. 10 months old. She is a Pit Bull / Labrador mix. She loves people, and would love nothing more than to be a lap dog, even though she will weigh about 60 lbs full grown. But since she is a Pit Bull mix, she will do best in a home with no small children or other animals. We believe she would totally enjoy having full attention, since she has had to share for so long. Destin has been spayed, and she is up to date with all vaccinations and wormings. She tested heartworm negative and is currently on monthly preventative. Destin is also microchipped. Please give her the home she so deserves!

DALE: Dale and his 4 littermates were dumped at the state park headquarters when they were about 3 months old. Three of his littermates were adopted quickly, but unfortunately Dale and his sister Destin came down with Parvo while at the city pound. Luckily they both pulled through the illness. Dale is a very sweet energetic dog. He is about 10 months old, and weighs about 55 lbs. Dale needs a home where he can get regular disciplined exercise. He loves to run and play with the other dogs and he loves people, but since he is a Pit Bull mix, he will need a home with no small children or other animals. Being an only dog in his new home will suit him just fine. He has had to share the attention for so long. Dale has been neutered, and he is up to date on all vaccinations and wormings. He tested heartworm negative and is currently on monthly preventative. Dale is also microchipped. He is looking forward to having his very own loving home!

DALYA: Dalya is very, very lucky to be alive. Actually we think she is Destin and Dale's littermate. She was found in the same place they were, only 3 weeks later, which means she had to stay in that terrible home longer. When she was found and brought to the pound, she was near death. Luckily, two of our volunteers were at the pound when she arrived, and she was taken immediately to our vet. As soon as she arrived at the hospital, they began blood transfusions. She was so emaciated and infested with hookworms. She lived at the vets office for almost a month before she had fully recovered. She is such a sweet, loving girl that is very appreciative of life. She loves to run and play, and has tons of energy. She is about 10 months old and weighs about 45 to 50 lbs. She is a Pit Bull / Labrador mix, so she will do best in a home with no small children or other animals. She has been known to jump over a 4' fence, so it would be best to have at least a 6' fence. Dalya is crate trained, she has been spayed and she is up to date on all vaccinations and wormings. She tested negative for heartworms and is currently on monthly preventative. Dalya is also microchipped. She just needs a wonderful, energetic person that will give her all the love and attention that she so deserves. |

FERN Fern came into our group, along with the entire litter of 6, when they were about 3 months old. Her previous family called and informed me that they were going on vacation and if I couldn't take these puppies by the time they left, they would take all the puppies to the pound to be euthanized. Of course, our answer was yes, we would take them. They arrived sick with parvo, coccidia, mange, and ringworm. We immediately began their treatment and finally months later, they were clear and well and healthy. We still have most of the litter, but Fern has decided she would be the national representative of her littermates, even though none of the others look anything like her. She is about 9 months old and weighs about 40 lbs. She is some type of Hound mix, very sweet and loving and wants to follow you every where you go. She will be a very loyal companion to her special person. All she wants to do is please. Fern has been spayed and is up to date on all vaccinations and wormings. She tested negative for heartworms and is currently on monthly preventative. Fern is also microchipped. We have told her what it will be like to have her very own forever family, and she is anxiously waiting. |

FARQUAR Farquar, let's see, what can I say about Farquar? He is a big, oversized, goofy, love of a dog. We found him in the pouring down rain, running back and forth in the middle of a very busy highway. Luckily it didn't take me long to convince him to trust me. I think he wanted out of that storm as much as I did. He is such a great dog. We think he is about 3 years old and weighs about 100 lbs. He looks to be an Irish Wolfhound mix. He has a medium energy level, and will need a tall fence around his yard. He gets along well with people and I think would do well with other dogs, especially of the female persuasion. Farquar has been neutered and is up to date with all vaccinations and wormings. He tested negative for heartworms and is currently on monthly preventative. Farquar is also microchipped. Even though Farquar's, has a go with the flow, Whatever, dude attitidue, he really would like to get out of his kennel and have his very own family. |

BASHA Basha came from a home that just hoard animals. We were called by her owner, as been many times over the past 6 years. When we arrived we found Basha and 3 other female dogs all with litters of puppies. One female dog that was very pregnant, 1 male pup, 1 female pup, 1 male adult dog, and 1 female adult dog. All of the dogs and puppies were covered in Sarcoptic mange. Basha was about 6 months old when we picked her up. She was very thin, no hair, and covered in sores. She seemed to be outgoing, but when I went to pick her up, she yelped and cried, as if she had never had human contact. The lady yelled at me to put her down, that she didn't want to go, but I was determined to get her and as many dogs out of that house as I could. We ended up removing Basha, and some of the other dogs before being kicked off the property. Basha is now a little over 1 year old, completely healthy and well. She is a Chinese Shar-Pei mix and weighs about 50 lbs, very outgoing and is great with people, although she can still gets a little freaked when put in certain situations. Given where she came from tha is not a surprise. She gets along well with other dogs, but can play a little rough at times. I believe she would do best in a home with no small children. She does not like cats. Basha has been spayed and is up to date on all vaccinations and wormings. She tested negative for heartworms and is currently on monthly preventative. Basha has also been microchipped. Please give her the chance to experience what it is like to be a part of a good, loving home and family! |

CLARABELLE Clarabelle was picked up at the same house as Basha, she was found chained to a tree. Clarabelle had a litter of 6 puppies when we rescued her. She and all her puppies were covered in Sarcoptic mange. Poor Clarabelle was skin and bones, she had no hair, and covered in sores. All her puppies were in the same shape. We worked hard and brought them all back to health. The puppies have been adopted to their new families, and now it is Clarabelles' turn to find her forever home. She is very sweet and loving, and has turned into an absolute gorgeous girl. She has a medium to low energy level. She is a bit timid and shy, so she probably would not do well with small children. She does OK with other dogs, as long as they do not bother her much. We think she is Great Pyrenees mix, so typically they do better as only dogs, and they are usually somewhat protective of their homes. We are guessing her to be about 2 or 3 years old and she weighs about 70 lbs. Clarabelle has been spayed and is up to date on all vaccinations and wormings. She tested negative for heartworms and is currently on monthly preventative. Clarabelle is also microchipped. She is anxiously waiting for the wonderful family that will teach her all about love and trust and goodness! |

PALOOKA Palooka, as his name implies, is a Boxer mix. He is very, very loving, especially towards women. He is fine with some men, but not all. We call him our indicator meter. He was live trapped and brought to our local city pound. He was very thin and scared. We think he had possibly been abused, and had been left to roam the streets. He is now very outgoing, and has the typical Boxer personality. He does fine with female dogs, although he does tend to play boxing with them. I don't think he would do well with male dogs and he does not like cats. We are guessing him to be about 4 years old and he weighs about 65 lbs. He is not housetrained, but I don't think it would take much to teach him, as he does not like messing up his kennel. Palooka was heartworm positive, but he completed his heartworm treatments many months ago, and he is currently on monthly preventative. He has been neutered and is up to date on all his vaccinations and wormings. Palooka is also microchipped. Palooka is such a great dog, and is just waiting for that right person to come along and give him the home he's longing for! |

PATCH He is full of energy and will require regular exercise. We think Patch is a Spaniel mix of some sort. He is between 2 and 3 years old and weighs about 55 lbs. We do not think Patch would be good with small children. And he absolutely does not like cats. He has been neutered and is up to date on all vaccinations and wormings. He tested negative for heartworms and is currently on monthly preventative. Patch is also microchipped. Patch has been waiting for a very long time for his new forever home, so please don't make him wait any longer. |

ARLO Arlo was found wondering around the local Dairy Queen parking lot. One of our volunteers picked him up fearing he would run out on the busy highway and be killed. His owners did come forward several weeks later, but never came back to pick him up. He has a very high energy level and will require lots of disciplined exercise. We think he is possibly Sheltie/Huskie mix. It's possible he would be OK with female dogs, but he doesn't get along with most male dogs. He would be best with adults and older children, simply because of his high energy. He is the funniest thing when he jumps. All fours leave the ground at the same time, and he can jump high like that! He is a comedian. The wheels in his head are constantly turning, trying to figure out what he can do next. Arlo did test positive for heartworms but he completed his heartworm treatments several months ago and is now currently on monthly preventative. He has been neutered and is up to date with all vaccinations and wormings. Arlo is also microchipped. So if you're looking for a comedian and a running partner, a dog that will keep you on your toes, Arlo's your guy. |

CICI CiCi was turned into our local city pound a couple years ago by a notorious local dog hoarder. She was covered in Sarcoptic mange and infested with fleas. She is so beautiful now, a very different color, a dark champagne. Everyone that has seen her has commented on how beautiful she is, but yet no one has adopted her. She is very sweet and playful, has lots of energy, and will require daily disciplined exercise. She is Pit Bull/Weimaraner mix. She gets along great with people but not with other dogs or cats. She will be best in a home with no small children. She would love nothing more than to be someone's running partner and lap dog. CiCi has been spayed and is up to date on all vaccinations and wormings. She tested negative for heartworms and is currently on monthly preventative. CiCi is also microchipped. She has seen so many dogs come and go, and I'm sure she wonders why she is never chosen. We just keep telling her the right person will come one day. Please let this be her time to shine! |

AMOS Amos is a beautiful Golden Retriever mix. He, along with his 7, one year old littermates were turned into our group by their previous owner. They were all very unsocialized, since they were all kept on chains the last 6 months. We have been working diligently to socialize them, and Amos is the first to make great strides. He is still weary of strangers, but once he gets to know you, he is very friendly and playful. He gets along well with other dogs. All he needs is some one-on-one attention. Since he is still a little shy, he would do best in a home with no small children. I think he would love to be a water dog, but he just has never been exposed to it. More than anything he just needs to learn how to play, trust, and love. He is about one and a half years old and weighs about 65 lbs. Amos has been neutered and is up to date on all vaccinations and wormings. He tested heartworm negative and is currently on monthly preventative. Amos is also microchipped. He so wants to learn how to be a great companion and love unconditionally, please give him that chance! |

AMELIE Amelie was spotted many times running across a very busy highway and hiding away underneath an old storage shed next to a hotel in January of 2007. No one could get near her she was so frightened. It became apparent with the difficult rescue that ensued she was terrified of human beings altogether and would take a very long to capture. Then it would take a very long time for her to heal emotionally and physically. She had been dumped after having a litter of pups (none were found with her) with a gash on her head and covered in mange. She had obviously been beaten. But yet she waited in that same spot for her owner to return. Today Amelie is the most gentle, loving, playful and sweet creature anyone could ever dream of. She is housetrained, happy, and always with a smile. She does well with all dogs and is ever so gentle that she would be very good in a home with children. She would take patience and training to walk on a leash. Because Amelie was abused she is particularly afraid of leashes. |

FAUSTUS Faustus (Faust for short) is a medium size Red Chow Hound Mix. He was dumped on the town square with a broken leg. (He is the one limping in the video) After months of metal pins through his back left leg and multiple surgeries Faust can run with the best of them. He is most likely about six years old, weighs around 60 pounds and does well with multiple dogs. He is gentle, only recently learned how to play and loves every minute of it. |

TEDDY Teddy was found by a Texas Parks and Recreation employee tied to a Pecan tree at the Mission Espiratu Santo. She could not take another dumped dog home with her (said her husband would divorce her!) and did not want to leave it there for fear of some of the more macho employees -- getting rid of it the quick way --with a bullet. She drove around with Teddy in the back of her truck for hours until she appeared in front of the foster moms house crying her eyes out. |

DIGBY AND DARBY Digby and Darby were rescued along with their mother from an awful, neglectful situation along with six of their siblings in April of 2007. They were only about 4 weeks old at the time. Their mother, sadly, was in such bad shape she had to be euthanized. (She isthe momma pit bull in the video). Their other six siblings were accepted into a rescue group for pitbulls but Digby and Darby were turned down because they were more Chocolate Lab than anything else, the runts of the litter and in the worst physical shape. Digby and Darby have known nothing but hugs and kisses since. They are two of the most playful, loving, gentle babies around and still think they are little bitty puppies that can curl up in your lap. Darby is particularly fond of giving hugs. They both love to play with every breed and size of dog and their temperament is that of a Lab. Digby is the welcomer of puppies. He lets them crawl all over him, chew on him and falls to sleep like he was their mother. |

HUMPHREY Humphrey. No one knows where Humphrey came from. He was left in Austin at an adoption facility and was spotted when we went to take our - ready for adoption - dogs up there. He was a puppy (still is) and was so sick and thin that he no longer had the energy to even lift his head much less eat. He would be euthanized that day so we took him back with us. Poor boy was so infested with worms that they sucked the very life out of him, not to mention the mange mites that took anything else left. He was literally being eaten alive from the inside and out. His gums were white from anemia and all he was was bones. Well, we fixed that. Today Humphrey is still in recovery but nevertheless running and eating like a racehorse. Turns out he is growing so fast from the good nutrition that he now receives every day and that his poor little body did without for so long in the past that he is growing too fast for his tendons to keep up with the bone growth. So every now and then and until he is fully grown he will require a daily dose of medication, but that should not take too long. Humphrey is a walking, talking miracle. He is a very happy dog, loves to play, and gets along well with other dogs. |

YOSUNE Hi there my name is Yosune and I have a story to tell! I was nott always this beautiful or well behaved. You see I was left on a chain with my sister Yoshiko for a month without food or water (we survived because a little old lady brought us water sometimes). My owner moved and left us behind with no way to fend for ourselves. We were rescued on Thanksgiving Day 2006 by our foster mom who had gotten a call about two dying dogs on chains. What a Thanksgiving Day that was for us! We were very weak at first and then as we got stronger became hyper and uncontrollable and our foster mom actually thought for the first time that she would have to put us to sleep because she was so exhausted from our behavior. You see we climbed out of 6 foot kennels. But then one day at 5 a.m. things changed. |

IVY Ivy was born at the City Pound in September 2003, 2 days after her mother was brought in as a stray. Her mother was a Pit Bull Mix but never have I met a sweeter dog. Her father was evidently a black Lab. Ivy was one in a litter of ten. Five of her siblings did not survive the first week. At 8 weeks of age, she and her surviving siblings were moved to foster care. Ivy is little distrusting of strangers but loves her foster Mom. Her foster home has no children... it would be better if her forever home was an all adult one. As with all our Pit mixes, we prefer them to be only pets. Ivy does not like cats. She does get along well with her brother Ivan. Ivy knows sit and come and is crate trained. She can get very excited and have an accident in her crate if left there too long. She is microchipped, heartworm negative, on heartworm preventative, up to date on shots and spayed. She weighs about 50 pounds. Just a note about Inky's mom, Indie, in case you might be wondering what happened to her. Her owner came forward several months later. She had been told that her dog was dead so had not been looking for her. After much consideration, we adopted Indie back to her owner. |

IVAN Ivan was born at the City Pound in September 2003, 2 days after his mother was brought in as a stray. His mother was a Pit Bull Mix but never have I met a sweeter dog. His father was evidently a black Lab. Ivan was one in a litter of ten. Five of his siblings did not survive the first week. At 8 weeks of age, he and his surviving siblings were moved to foster care. Ivan is very handsome in his formal tuxedo look but he can be quite a clown. His foster home has no children... it would be better his forever home was an all adult one. Children scare him, although with everything else in life, he "ain't skeered". As with all our Pit mixes, we prefer them to be only pets even though he and his sister Ivy are best buds. Ivan definitely does not like cats. Ivan knows sit and come and is crate trained. He is microchipped, heartworm negative, on heartworm preventative, up to date on shots and neutered. If Ivan could have a home where he is loved and doesn't have to share that love with so many other dogs, he'd be extremely happy. He weighs in the neighborhood of 60 pounds but would probably trim down a little if he had regular and more exercise. |

INKY Inky was born at the City Pound in September 2003, 2 days after her mother was brought in as a stray. Her mother was a Pit Bull Mix but never have I met a sweeter dog. Her father was evidently a black Lab. Inky was one in a litter of ten. Five of her siblings did not survive the first week. At 8 weeks of age, she and her surviving siblings were moved to foster care. Inky has her mother's temperament, but is very shy. Her foster home has no children... it would be better her forever home was an all adult one. As with all our Pit mixes, we prefer them to be only pets. Inky definitely does not like cats. Her one annoying characteristic is that she loves to shred paper. I have lost one adoption contract with an attached check, vet records, at least 10 dollars and countless newspapers and magazines because I left them in harm's way. And whose fault might that be, you ask. Inky knows sit and come and is crate trained. She is microchipped, heartworm negative, on heartworm preventative, up to date on shots and spayed. Inky wants to please (except for that shredding thing) and she is very smart. She so deserves a loving home of her own. She weighs about 60 pounds but could stand to lose a few of those pounds. Just a note about Inky's mom, Indie, in case you might be wondering what happened to her. Her owner came forward several months later. She had been told that her dog was dead so had not been looking for her. After much consideration, we adopted Indie back to her owner. |

CAB We first saw Cab in March 2007 as we were lined up on the parade route, waiting impatiently for the Stock Show Parade to begin. It seems so often that we are at public events and what catches our eye but a dog who seems to be without a human companion. Always we watch, hoping we are wrong... but rarely are we. He went from group to group along the parade route, working his way in our direction. When he was about 1/2 block from us someone kicked at him. That was it. Our youngest volunteer who was 6 at the time, called to him and he came bounding. He was about 7 months old. Consistent with another recurring theme in our rescue stories, no one ever asked at the pound, city or called us looking for him. We named him Caballero but that was quickly shortened. Unlike most of our rescues, Cab was healthy. However after a couple of months, he became very lethargic (which was in stark contrast to his usual behavior) and developed diarrhea. Our Vet initially diagnosed him with parvo. Fortunately he was still at the animal hospital when we rushed in nearly bloodless Dalya. Cab was Dalya's lifesaving blood donor. Cab is wonderful with people but not with all dogs. Especially if a dog tries to crowd him. Cab is still very clumsy... and very high energy. Clumsy is one thing. Large and clumsy is another - a home with no small children would be best. Cab tested negative for heartworms, has been on preventative since joining us, up to date on his shots, neutered and is microchipped. He is now a little over a year old and weighs around 70 pounds. The important thing missing in his life is a loving forever home. |
